Malay Dramas

If ever there was a survey done on how popular Malay dramas are, I wouldn't even dare guess what are the odds that the average Malay would watch the dramas aired on televison. Many opted for Korean, Indonesian or Chinese dramas but strange enough I love to watch Malay dramas ( my daughter would affirm that) as there are so much you can learn from it. Mostly it's what you don't want to be and must not be as a person, that is the most common lessons as outcome from watching Malay dramas. The themes are usually the same, the setting too if you do not believe me try and watch them. The dramas I watched over Eid has to some extent all of the setting below:

Old kampong house
Very poor family living in the village
Family members screaming on top of their voices at each other
Rich family who is always detached from Islam
Ladies who wear make-up even while sleeping
Horrid step mothers
Pathetic helpless wives
Verbally abusive husbands
COW - Club of obedient wives
The rich who are such snobs and obnoxious
Religious figures living in the villages
Children who are not dutiful to old, poor parents
Parents who are so close-minded like they are living in the dark ages
Grandmothers who scream and shout at their grandchildren
Scary movies
Withcraft
Love stories with sad endings
A rude dying mother who prayed to Allah to take her unmarried son with her when she dies
Death on Eid morning
The demise of the whole family in a road accident with the mother waiting for them to come home
Sad, sadder, saddest stories over Eid

Of course there are a few heart wrenching good dramas which make me cry continuosly as I watch them. I love sob stories but the plot has to be real good. He..he..

  1. I will read all of your entries at night.

The ambiance and mood should be dark, cozy, cold, on bed with comfy pillows plus while your son in law is asleep.

You have never brought me to Kampung Kubor right?
