Tawakkal

On Monday morning, I went to a funeral of my former staff, a young woman aged 28 with two young children, aged three yrs and the other aged one and half years old. A very nice, soft spoken, well liked person and on her last day she came to say thank you and goodbye, which was a truly nice gesture though I was not her immediate boss but simply one of the management team. Many has left without a word of thanks. On her last day I gave her a book 'Indahnya Hidup Bersyariat' by Ismail Kamus. She was the type of girl who would use the book I was sure. That was just several months ago and on Sunday evening I received a text that she had passed on in an accident.

The whole family was involved in a car accident. She was at the back seat with her two children, husband driving and a relative in the front passenger seat. She was nursing her baby when the incident happened and she was unbelted unfortunately. She suffered injuries in the head, went into a coma and never regained conciousness. If only she was belted could it have been different? I know and I understand that when your time is up not a second too soon or not a second late. May Allah shower his blessings to arwah. Al-Fatihah.

I then went back to read on Qada and Qadar Allah, to understand the what-ifs, to understand ikhtiar, to understand the decree and divine will. We cannot change what has been written in the Loh-Mahfuz and when we die and how we die is all written there. Does that mean we simply ignore all efforts that may save lives? I have been working in the lines of Road Safety for more than 10 years. I have known personally of people who do not wear seat belt at the rear passenger seat and die in an accident. Do we simply say their time is up. Many motorcyclists do not wear helmets, do we say the same thing. Do not bother, when your time is up, it's up. Or do we recite the travel doa and then get into the car ignoring to wear the seatbelt either at the front or the rear. Then what are doas/duas for? Why does Allah require us to try our best at everything if things are destined for us? If you are afraid to lose your camel, tie it up to a tree and then only tawakkal - remember the story?
