Haji Mabrur

I was listening to a tazkirah on television thereabouts end of Hajj season and the topic was on attaining Hajj Mabrur. My 20 year old son asked me too what does it mean by Hajj Mabrur and honestly despite having done my Hajj two years ago I still struggle on the definition of Mabrur.

Is Hajj Mabrur something like either you get it or you don't kind of thing? Is there anything in between? Do you at the end of your Hajj get it and thus automatically get your rewards (pahala) written in your books? Or do you get your Hajj Mabrur rewards say after a month, three months or only after you are indeed a better person than before you performed your Hajj? Or is it immediately after the Hajj when Allah The Al-Mighty accepted all your repentance. The promise for Hajj Mabrur is Jannah. Which is it or what is it?

The ustaz mentioned that Mabrur is when after performing Hajj, one consistenly
  • carry out activities towards being soleh or solehah;
  • To leave behind activities that takes you away from Allah s.w.t. ;
  • Not to Syubahat;
  • towards doing good ;
  • consistently good behaviour;
  • knowing life's direction

In Bahasa Melayu:
  • kearah soleh
  • tinggalkan perkara yang melekakan
  • tinggalkan Syubahat
  • suka buat kebaikan
  • ahlak semakin baik
  • hidup kita akan lebih terarah

The ustaz mentioned seven but I missed one. These are things that one is expected to do as a good muslim. All this if done in istiqamah is beneficial to the human soul. So what is Hajj Mabrur and when do one get the rewards written in His or Her books. Beyond me! We nevertheless wish those who wish to perform the Hajj, may they attain Hajj Mabrur.

So after coming home and having to go to work on a daily basis, it is difficult to perform prayers and read the Quran as when one was in Makkah. Slowly things tend to slip away. Am back to listening music on the radio, back to watching television etc...intermittently laced with Quran reading at night or listening to zikir and Quran recitation on the way to work. Mabrur or not? One can only doa and only God Al-Mighty knows, He is the All Knowing.
